While the ADA celebrated its 30th anniversary, the Metropolitan Planning Council (MPC) undertook a first-of-its kind assessment of quality ADA transition plans for the public right-of-way.
Their report “Where the Sidewalk Ends” summarizes the findings from 200 municipalities in the Chicago region. It also makes the case for why transition planning is important to the region’s residents. Included are resources for local planners, leaders and advocates to help make their communities more accessible.
MPC approached us to bring their important findings to life in a way that also reflects the spirit of the ADA. We combined text with infographics, maps and compelling imagery. Color is used to cue the reader to the report’s structure. We came up with a style that reflected both MPC and the Great Lakes ADA Center’s brands. The report is now being used to spark conversation around how to bring about real change in ADA transition planning in and beyond the Chicago region.
